Vision and core-values
Africa is a continent where more than 90% of the states can be characterized as 'developing democracy'. This development is a complex puzzle that consists of many small pieces. We believe that most of this puzzle should be placed by the inhabitants of the particular country itself: after all, they determine how they want their neighborhood, their community, their country and that of their children and grandchildren to look like.
At the same time, we can’t ignore the fact that development in this moment in time is something unevenly distributed in the world. Where some places have wealth in abundance, there are other areas with a severe shortage. The reasons for this are at least as complex as the puzzle of development itself, but In2Afrika looks ahead. We focus on the puzzle of the future. The In2afrika foundation believes that, since this development at the moment is so unequally distributed, we have put together some of the puzzle ourselves. Think of it as the corners of the flat-edged pieces of the side. These foundations are necessary for the final completion of the puzzle. And when a local community needs support with this, In2Afrika tries to offer this to them.
In2Afrika Foundation will provide this support by assisting in the most small-scale basic form of democratic development, called 'civil society'. You will find more about this in our policy. We work with a duality of intertwined and mutually dependent elements, which our foundation focuses on from its vision: First, the changed valuation of a negative, one-sided image of the African continent. Second, the active support of 13 small-scale projects that exactly fit into the vision of our foundation: positive and focused on the future.
The vision of our foundation can be translated to a number of core-values, than have been summed up below:
# 1 Imaging: Changing the negative stigma which now controls the image of the
# 2 Inspiration: the bridge between perception and support.
# 3 Activation: to reach people and let them participate actively in the process of
changing image and / or support.
# 4 Support: offer selected projects tailored support to let them move forward with their own vision.
# 5 Small scale: small-scale, local initiatives as a basis for appropriate development of African societies. With this we do justice to the diversity within the continent, within countries and within communities.
# 6 Empowerment: support (but not giving the actual substance) to activate its own.
# 7 Independence: we won’t determine anything for projects, we will only support to realize their self-determined goals without depending on us
# 8 Sustainability: development and support have to focus on the long term. Communities and their environment must develop structurally and independent
Mission and objectives
The In2Afrika Foundation takes it as her mission:
to provide customized support to its selected, small-scale development projects across the African continent and thereby, as inseparable from the support provided to influence the Western perception of Africa positively.
From this mission, the foundation has derived two main objectives:
a) Support: Support for the development of the African continent through supporting small-scale initiatives as the cradle of a strong civil society.
b) Imaging: As a condition for support, applying modification and more multilateral to the negative, especially one-sided image of the African continent, as a basis for proper and adequate support of communities in development.
From this dual mission, we have derived a number of specific sub-objectives, which we pursue with foundation In2Afrika.
Objective 1: Select, visit and supporting small African initiatives;
Objective 2: Provide support which may include financial resources exchange of knowledge and expertise, linkage with Dutch partners and / or providing publicity;
Objective 3: Promote African civil society;
Objective 4: Changing the negative, one-sided tendency in imaging around the African continent;
Objective 5: Changing this perception by simply showing Africa, its people and its civil society;
Objective 6: to inspire and activate people in the Netherlands with respect to (the development of) Africa.
